Our Folk Songs
Türkü, derived from the word Türki, means "belonging to Turk" and this word is generally used for all broken melodies. The concept of türkü is known as Türkü among Turks, Türkmani among Turkmens, and varsağı among Varsaks. Folk songs are generally written in syllable meter and rarely in aruz meter. Folk songs are generally sung accompanied only by a saz.
Folk songs are also divided into branches within themselves, such as: dirges, beauty songs, satire songs, love songs, soldier songs, songs telling about heroism, etc.
The concept of türkü, which is on the verge of being forgotten today, is not well embraced by the new generation. Folk songs add a lot to a person and tell us about the past. Also, each region has its own folk songs and dirges.
