Is the Ability to Draw Innate?

We all encounter very talented people, on television or on the streets, who can draw as they wish. Especially today, with the widespread use of the internet, we witness these people sharing their works online. Drawing is defined as the transfer of real or abstract shapes to canvas or paper with specific materials. The person who draws is called an artist. Painting, which is an art form, is also taught as a subject in schools today. Painting is not only an art but also a therapy. According to some research, people who engage in painting tend to have a calmer state of mind and achieve inner peace. Furthermore, painting is also used to calm the nervous system and treat depression. In fact, many mental hospitals offer painting courses to their patients undergoing treatment.

But is drawing a talent? Does drawing require an innate talent?

The answer to these questions is quite confusing. While some people say that drawing is a talent and requires an innate ability, others argue that drawing is a skill that individuals can develop on their own. When we examine the lives of artists, we see that some of them started drawing magnificent pictures as early as 3-4 years old. These individuals seem to have an innate talent. On the other hand, when we look at some artists like Van Gogh, we can see that they didn't even hold a brush until their twenties and started by imitating. Although drawing, according to some, requires an innate ability, it is a skill that can be developed with sufficient practice.
